I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! This Thanksgiving was definitely one for the books. Since my grandmother passed away earlier this year, we hosted Thanksgiving, and Potter and I were in charge of the turkey. Welcome, stress. We did … Continue reading →
I’ve always heard about races that happen on Thanksgiving, but I had never given a thought to doing one. Thanksgiving is obviously about the food, and I had no intention of interrupting stuff-my-face time with exercise of all things. More importantly, if past years are any indication, I would freeze my ass off. Thank you, Indiana. I don’t know what got into me, but Potter and I decided to give it a try last year!
I was pretty nervous. It wasn’t my first race, but I hadn’t run in probably over a month at that point. Oops. It was also really cold. No surprise there.
I ended up running the entire race! I felt seriously awesome, and the holiday was so much more enjoyable because of it. I think this will be a yearly thing now!
I’m really looking forward to this one because it’s back at Ball State (chirp, chirp!), and I’ll be running it with Potter and both of my brothers. Plus, I get a free beer at Scotty’s after the race. Um, yes please.
Next, I have the Muncie Mini Marathon 10K in September.
I’m really excited about this one too because this is where I ran my first 5K. Instead of doing another 5K, I’ll be doing the 10K. I was disappointed in how I did during my first 10k last fall, so my goal is to improve for this one!
I think a month and a half is an appropriate amount of time to wait to write a post. Am I right? It’s not like this post has anything at all to do with time…oops.
Normally, I’m not a resolution type of gal, mostly because I have the same resolutions every. freaking. year. Lose weight! Keep it off! Feel awesome! Eh, not so much. Broad goals like those generally don’t work for me, and they especially don’t work when I’m literally supposed to change overnight. The more specific a goal, the better I do.
I have both life- and health-related goals, but I’ll only be sharing the health-related ones. I’m assuming no one cares how many times I floss per week. Just FYI, I know that’s health-related. Dental health is an indication of overall health and all that jazz. You know what I’m getting at.
You may be wondering why I don’t have a specific pound-related goal, and I did that completely on purpose. I’m honestly not interested in how much I weigh. I do, of course, have an ultimate goal number in mind, but that’s mostly because I know where I’ve been before and that I look/feel good at that number. The number on the scale may not be everything, but let’s not kid ourselves, it is something. I just don’t want to set myself up for failure. If I feel good about the progress I’ve made and have achieved all of my other goals, I don’t want that stupid number to make me feel like I haven’t accomplished everything I set out to do.
Since it is the middle of February, I’ve had quite a bit of time to start working on these goals. Watch for updates soon!
I promise, I’m here! Just doing the virtual drop-in to tell anyone who may still care that I am, indeed, still alive and kicking.
I took some time off to enjoy the holidays and my anniversary with Portage (5 years, what?!). The holidays were wonderful and filled with my favorite people and foods. What more could I ask for? I do actually have proof that I spend time with people. One. And he kinda doesn’t count. (Love you anyway!)
I wasn’t overly concerned with the scale during the holidays because I really wanted to enjoy them. Did I faceplant into the cookie dough like I really wanted to? No. Did I eat cookies? Hell yes. It was glorious. I am not ashamed.
Other than that, I’ve been working. and working. That’s about it.
My new goal is to post at least once a week this year, and I’m going strong at a solid 1/3 weeks so far. Awesome.
Look for some updates on some of my other goals for the new year as well as a race (or 2 – ahhhh!) that I may be doing.
The Fourth of July is a huge deal in my family. Like, HUGE. My dad takes the entire week off of work in preparation for the holiday. It must be a guy thing because he’s passed his love of fireworks and the Fourth onto my brothers.
In case you didn’t know, most of Indiana was under a burn ban last year at this time. We tried to talk my dad into setting off our fireworks anyway, but he didn’t want to set our trees on fire and blah, blah, blah. He was depressed for the rest of the week.
This year was especially cool because it had been so long since my dad had put on one of his spectacular shows. The pictures truly do not do it justice.
The rest of my weekend was spent eating. Surprise, surprise. These were some of my favorites.
So delicious! Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend!
